The company is the world's longest and toughest professional sporting event - a sailing race run for over 40 years on a scale like no other and a story with the power to engage fans in unique ways. It was founded in 1973 and conducts business from its registered head office which is strategically located in Alicante/Alacant, Spain. The teams in the 2014-15 edition once again experienced scorching days and freezing nights in cramped conditions onboard the new one-design Volvo Ocean 65s. Sailors covered 38,739 nautical miles (44,580 miles or 71,745 kilometres) across four oceans and five continents, taking on a challenge of breathtaking scope, hitting maximum speeds of 37 knots (68.5 kph) and facing mountainous waves.
