Legal activities

The company is the hub of the European Union's administration for the registration and protection of trademarks and designs. Community Trade Marks (CTMs) and Community Designs (CDs), the primary tools for the protection of intellectual property in Europe, must be registered at the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM), located in the city. It was incorporated in November of 2000. The company has a registered office located in Alicante/Alacant, Spain. As such, the 14 multilingual lawyers working at the company's office focus almost exclusively on intellectual property issues, offering clients the benefits of an accumulation of know-how relating to trademarks and designs, and the laws and practices that affect them. Its close liaison with OHIM officials ensures high levels of protection for clients' intellectual property assets. The company has successfully guided some 10,000 applications to CTM registration,and has defended and challenged thousands of trademarks in opposition and cancellation proceedings, including numerous appeals. It presents clients in CTM proceedings before the General Court, before the European Court of Justice, and before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva. The company also manages worldwide portfolios of trademarks and designs. It coordinates and advises on enforcement issues across Europe, and develops defensive strategies to secure the best outcome for clients in any potential dispute. The company's representative clients include Deutsche Telekom, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Citibank, Red Bull, and Dell.
